Maldon v Broomfield
We started our Under 10 season away at a very chilly Broomfield.
After winning the toss we decided to bowl first. We got off to a great start with 2 wickets for Henry and 1 from Harrison in the first three overs, thanks to some great bowling and catching from Harry behind the stumps.
The good form continued as last year’s Bowler of the Year Lillian took her first wicket of this season. Her brother Martin was also a star with the ball in his first league game and unlucky not to also pick up a wicket.
With further wickets from Joshua and debutant Amelia, including a great catch in the deep from last year’s Fielder of the Year Henry. Six wickets was a deserved return thanks to a great bowling and all-round fielding performance as Broomfield reached 291 in their 20 overs.
With the bat Oren and Joshua made a great start with 26 runs, Josh hitting 2 fours. Broomfield’s strong bowling attack made it hard for the remaining batters to make significant inroads, with the highlights being Oliver’s shot for 4, siblings Martin and Lillian putting on 12 runs without losing a wicket, and the running between the wickets, often exemplified by Logan and Harrison.
Eventually we finished on 237, a fine effort in the first game of the season.
Well done to everyone and thanks to Broomfield, who are always excellent hosts and a fun team to play against. The children really appreciated the tea put on for them afterwards.
Our next game is an Under 9’s game next Sunday morning at home to Ingatestone.
