Report kindly provided by Malcolm Macleod. Thank you to Malcolm for putting this together and providing it to the club.

1st XI:
Mildenhall 209/6 v Maldon 110/all out

“That was a difficult loss after two very promising performances against top sides in this division,” said skipper Ross Walpole. “We bowled well but our batting deserted us. Still, we move on. When the two sides of our XI fire together, we will do well!”

Mildenhall battled first: Max Ciccosta and Joe Hazell got into Mildenhall’s top order: 2 – 34 was a satisfactory start and with terrific support from Toby Pugh (1 – 36 off 10 overs) and Matt Anderson (2 – 22), the innings looked under control until Freddie Bowser made a swashbuckling 54 not out. A late innings stand with Murtaza Hussain (32) led to Mildenhall totalling 209.

“I didn’t think this was beyond us,” said skipper Ross.

However, Ross did not foresee a wonderful spell by Liam Ticehurst (5 – 24).

There was some stubborn resistance by Matt Anderson, Ben Gibbons and Toby Pugh (27), who top scored from number 11, but Maldon finished well short.

Skipper Ross said, “In terms of results it’s been a disappointing start but there are many good things about this team and in future weeks we will get due reward.”

2nd XI:
Maldon 200/7 v Brightlingsea 202/9

This was another close result but a loss for Maldon’s 2nd XI. It is a similar situation to the 1st team as the season has been promising and any loss has been a close run thing.

Maldon, put in by Brightlingsea, made a good start with skipper Martyn Coker (40) and James Ellis (25) but then wickets fell regularly and at 129 – 6 a loss total seemed inevitable. However, Harry Grant (54) anchored the lower order and eventually found a partner in Stuart Coker. The innings closed at 200 – 7.

In reply Brightlingsea at 86 – 6 seemed to be struggling as David Boyden (4 – 32) and Harry Grant (2 – 67) had bowled well. Enter Nimesh Jayasingh (40) and Oscar Finbow (69) whose 12 boundaries rescued Brightlingsea’s chances. They scraped past Maldon with their last pair at the wicket.

Skipper Martyn was still upbeat. “We are a side in development and the immediate future is good.”

3rd XI:
Maldon 112/3 v Boxted 108/7

In their first home match at the Prom, Maldon 3rd XI were victorious.

Greatly aided by a spell of 3 – 7 overs by Sanders, Maldon bowled out Boxted for 101.

In reply Dave Richardson scored an unbeaten 51 but perhaps the most inspiring innings was 21 by Tom Davy who after 14 years has returned to cricket because of the interest and enthusiasm of his children.
