Looking back, the surreal year that was 2020, I would like to thank the age group managers and wider members of the club, all volunteers, for their effort and commitment in getting cricket played in spite of the obvious disruptions.
The last 12 months and the potential impact I feel it may have had on young people is significant. The risks of disengagement with something of interest is an issue, but it is more the social aspect of a team environment and engaging with friends that is and will be increasingly important and this is something that will be encouraged through the season.
Training in 2021
2021 will see a change to Colt’s cricket age group coaching with a move to Friday evenings and the hope of creating a more inclusive and social environment for all involved. It should be a pleasant way to start the weekend, with the bar open for parents and structured coaching for all players. Coaching will be overseen by Andrew Briggs our Level 2 ECB qualified coach with support from the age group managers.
- U9 – U11 Fridays 6.15pm – 7.15pm
- U13 – U15 Fridays 6.45pm – 8.00pm
The club has entries into the Central District League and Cup across all age groups. An U12 side will again compete in the Brian Taylor Trophy and an U14 side are entered into a new event, The Alastair Cook T20 Trophy. We will also encourage friendly matches with neighbouring clubs, especially for our younger age groups in line with their ability and development. Please respond quickly to age group managers with your availability.
We are fortunate to have parent volunteers who take the role of age group managers, but I make no apology in asking for more support. It is intended that each age group should have 2 co-managers to relieve the responsibility away from one individual and will increase the quality and quantity of cricket played. That aside, it is a very rewarding experience so please contact me directly if you would like to be involved.
The club will always welcome new players, especially amongst our U7 – U9 age groups, including those who may not have been previously introduced to cricket. If you know of anyone who might be interested in joining Maldon CC, please ask them to contact any of the Colt’s Management Team.
On behalf of the Colt’s Management Team at Maldon CC, we are looking forward to seeing you all in the next few weeks and excited at the potential for a great season of cricket.
