The 4s were playing at the prom for the first time in six weeks and having won the toss elected to bat first.
Openers Mark Thorn and Steve Brown scored quickly and put on a quick 55 for the opening wicket with Thorn (41) being bowled by a delivery that nipped back. Joe Figg and Joe Gregory soon followed scoring 1 and 10 respectively.
Father and son Steve Brown and Jamie Brown put on a valuable 70 with Jamie scoring 46 before being caught at extra cover. Steve soon reached hi 50 before being bowled for 55. A great patient knock that supported the innings. Norman Case (17), Al Johnson (6) and Andy Phipps (21*) ensured the scoring continued and after 40 overs Maldon finished on 200/7.
Murray Mynard and Michael Newman opened the bowling with Murray bowling 4 maidens in his six overs. A great spell of bowling that deserved several wickets. Mikel continued to bowl well and after his 11 overs finished with a great 5/14 with great catches being taken by Joe Gregory and Norman Case.
Dave Richardson bowled well and took 2/10 alongside AL Johnson 1/9 and Andy Phipps 2/14. This was a patient, disciplined fielding and bowling performance with Mersea finishing all out for 50.
The Maldon 4th XI have now played 17 games and won 13 games with 3 losses and 1 game cancelled. Boxted at Drapers await the 4th XI on Sunday 12th.
