Having negotiated the diversion to get to the away fixture at Brightlingsea, the 4th XI were soon heading back on the local roads having been put into bat and being skittled out for just 32 runs.
Only Steve Brown reached double figures with wickets falling regularly as a result of quick, accurate and smart bowling. Brightlingsea deserve to be playing in a higher division with the bowling attack on display. Each batsman found it almost impossible to score due to the quality bowling at both ends.
Maldon 4s were unlucky to play Brightlingsea when they (B’sea) had their full bowling attack available.
The only positive today was the wicket taken by Sophia Mitchell. Sophia bowled a great first over and bowled the opening batsman with a fine swinging delivery and was incredibly unlucky not to be awarded a LBW delivery shortly afterwards.
A disappointing afternoon for the 4th XI. However, other results went their way so promotion is still on.
