After a week missed due to poor weather the 3’s looked to carry on there winning streak while hosting Nacton, without Captain Phipps!
Maldon began the day with the bat. With openers, Cameron Blackboro and Andrew Barnes looking to make a solid start, however this was over shortly when Barnes was bowled clean for 3.
Cameron who looked strong from the start was joined by Mark Thorn who played his way to 8 runs before departing. Jamie Brown then joined Cameron, who both batted superbly and built solid partnership with some precise shots and a few big maximums from Brown. While the innings started to take shape both men looked strong playing shots around the ground, as the run rate began to increase.
The innings was then haulted when Brown unfortunately cut one back onto his stumps off the bowling of James Doig who claimed his first wicket off match, Cameron was then joined in by Mike Smith.
After the few overs they together Smudger reached 14 runs before being run out. After three balls faced by Laurence Cook, he departed leaving Blackboro at the crease as he approached his 50.
Angus Beames then arrive and both men put on a good partnership, Cameron recording his 50 in this process, his second for the season. Angus and Cameron’s partnership was to be maintained until Blackboro’s innings was ending, as he was caught on 78 from 115 balls with 11 fours. A superb innings from the opener.
Angus was then joined by Keith Sharp who remained undefeated, with the pair edging the score just over 200 ending Maldon on 203, Angus on 33 and Keith on 10.
As the Don’s looked to continue their unbeaten start, they opening the bowling was Luke Sanders and Callum Figg, both leading the wickets for the season on 19 each. After coming back from a small injury Sanders set out to add to his wickets this year looking for a 20th, it nearly came in the first over after the ball being chipped over Will Hayes landing just a few meters behind him, however this did not stop a wicket falling after a direct hit onto the wickets saw the first wicket fall.
Callum Figg was then to start the second over of the innings only requiring two deliveries to dismiss the batsman for a LBW becoming the first person to gain to his 20th wicket for the season.
The next over, Luke joined him in reaching 20 wickets for the season. Nacton chasing 202 were only 33 for 6 after the spells of both Luke and Callum was to come to a close, both bowlers bowling 7 overs, Luke 19-2 and Callum Figg 15-3.
After the spell of the openers Angus Beames and Will Hayes took over the reigns, both bowling incredibally well cleaning up the the last few batsmen Nacton had to offer. Both bowling 5 overs Beames with figures of 6-1 with 3 maidens and Hayes, 9-2 with 2 maidens.
Maldon 3rd’s remain unbeaten after another solid performance and look to carry on their win run to Woodbridge next week.
