A much changed, Maldon 4th XI made the long trip to picturesque Woodbridge without captain Joe Figg and a number of other regular team members. Bowling first having won the toss, (makes a change – the change of Captain obviously helped!), the opening bowlers were excellent, Luke Reeve and Kian Woolston restricting the Woodbridge batsman to 32 from the first 13 overs.
With the pressure building Maldon’s all time record wicket taker Dave Richardson bowled excellently getting 5 wickets for 27 and ripping the heart of of the opposition batting supported well by Finn Jones, keeping it tight at the other end.
Jas Baines and Al Johnson polished of the remaining batsmen giving Maldon a chase of under 100 on a pitch with very variable bounce. Excellent fielding including some good football skills from our keeper, Mason Foakes really helped keep the total down.
Batting was fairly hard going with some good accurate bowling and very variable bounce. A good stand for the third wicket brought us close and a nice cameo at the end from Paul Woolston saw Maldon home with plenty of time to spare.
A great all round performance and Maldon 4s are well placed in the league.
