Sunday XI Collect First Win

After a narrow defeat to Brentwood CC last weekend the Sunday Xl look to start strong this weekend against Eight Ash Green. Arriving to Eight Ash Green, Captain Bains lost the toss and was forced to bat first.

Stuart Coker and Andy Phipps set out the crease with a promising start which was shattered early doors, with Phyppsy being bowled around the legs clipping the leg stump. S. Coker was then joined by Cameron Blackboro who swiftly steadied the ship. However only a few overs later disaster struck, Coker’s innings was over as he was caught at mid on after pushing one into the hands of the fielder. Joe Entwhistle came to the crease with a quick fire 24, courtesy a few stupendous shots before being caught and bowled.

Maldon were now 63/3 with Blackboro being joined by Martyn Coker, the two putting on a batting masterclass with Cameron retiring 54 not out and a quick fire 52 from Martyn with four 6’s.

Maldon ending on 179/6 from there 40 and preparing to defend there score for the batting innings of Eight ash green.

Maldon started off with the opening of Luke Sanders and David Blackboro. After 5 overs a piece the change was made to bring Andy Phipps and Paul Conway in to the attack.

Andy Phipps struck to hamper the hosts, taking 2 wickets from his 4 overs and while Conway had a few close shavings of his own. After a spell of 4 overs each, Luke Reeve was brought into the bowling attack and took 2 wickets off his 4 overs, while Stuart and Martyn Coker both narrowly missed out in the wickets.

That brought Captain Bains and David Blackboro back into the attack both picking up 3 wickets each, recording their best bowling stats for the season so far and finishing the game on a high, the Dons winning by 66 runs.
