Ones Denied By The Weather

After last week’s disappointing defeat Maldon headed to Suffolk to play Woolpit in their third league game of the season.

With the weather looking particularly unsettled Maldon were asked to bat and after two early wickets this looked a wise move. Then the inform Mackenzie Jones and the returning Ian Elliott proceeded to first settle the ship and then provide a solid base. Both players reached fifties and a partnership of 126 was a suitable reward for their efforts. Like in previous weeks some quick wickets halted Maldon’s momentum along with several rain delays that meant the players were continually leaving and returning back to the pitch. Despite these interruptions Matt Coppen 33 not out was able supported by Reece Bawden 17 not out as they secured maximum batting points and a challenging total of 225 that would be hard to reach in the conditions.

Unfortunately after a brief tea and subsequent hail storm the game was abandoned with no promise of the weather conditions improving in order for the game to finish.

Next week Maldon travel to Haverhill to continue their league campaign.
