Maldon v Ingatestone

Sunday morning we hosted Ingatestone in our first under 9 league game of the season at Drapers Farm. After captain Harry won the toss he elected to field.
After good but unlucky opening spells from Lillian, Freddie, Seth and Harry against some confident batting, Ingatestone found themselves on 252. The next pair of bowlers, our youngest players Martin and James, only went for a further 8 runs, with James taking his first ever wicket for Maldon.
A further 5 wickets, two from Oliver and one each for Meghan and Henry, coupled with a run out, meant that Ingatestone finished on 275. A really good bowling performance all around.
With the bat Harry and Amelia got us off to a steady start with Harry hitting a nice four. Lillian added two more fours and some well-run singles to the total whilst batting with brother Martin.
Meghan and James then put on 37 runs for the third pair, with Meghan hitting 4 fours. At 244 we were getting closer.
Some positive running from the pairings of Freddie and Henry as well as Seth and Oliver meant we edged closer but even a four from Oliver wasn’t quite enough as we unfortunately finished 10 runs short with a total of 265.
Another good performance capped off with a lovely tea after the game, thanks to Laura for organising and the parents who helped with this. Well done all around. Next Sunday morning we host Upminster in the cup.
