We are delighted to announce to resigning of Connah Thompson for 2024 season, who will also continue in his role as Head Colts Coach.
Connah had a stellar debut season for the club in 2023, securing the club’s Player of the Year Award. His contribution on the pitch saw him take 40 wickets as we were crowned Division 2 Champions, returning to Division 1 at the first time of asking. Connah also added 324 vital runs with the bat, often at a quick run rate.

Off the pitch, Connah’s coaching and input supported the development of many of our young players, aiding both their skill and confidence. His knowledge and expertise will continue to be a massive asset for the club in the coming years, as Connah has decided to move permanently from New Zealand to Maldon. His UK ancestry visa means he will be classified as a local player in the future, allowing us to add to our squad with an overseas player this season.
Speaking on Connah’s return, 1st XI captain Ross Walpole said “Connah was a huge asset to the club on and off the pitch last summer. He produced match-winning performances on the pitch, and his enthusiasm and knowledge will continue to inspire many of our younger players.”
Club Chairman Alan Coker added “We are incredibly pleased that Connah has chosen to settle in the local area. He has been a key part of the club since he joined, and we can’t wait to see what more he can add to the club this season. We view his coaching role as just as important as his on-field contributions- our young players benefited from working closely with him last summer.”
Everyone at Drapers would like to welcome Connah back to the Farm and we look forward to seeing him in action for the Dons, throughout 2024 and beyond.
