4th XI Finish With A Win

The final game of the season saw Maldon 4s face a mixed side from Galleywood CC in a 40 over friendly fixture. This proved to be a great game played in great spirit in glorious sunshine at Slades Lane, Galleywood.

Maldon 4s batted first and Mark Thorn quickly got into his stride dispatching the opening bowler into Chelmer Park twice in the first over. Josh Servis played some fine cut shots but they were well fielded by the Galleywood fielders. He fell for just 4 runs bring Paul Gregory to the crease.

Gregory and Thorn continued to play shots and after 12 overs the score was 64/1. Thorn was well caught at mid on for a well played 37 runs. Joe Figg came to the crease and scored 33 runs in a 60 run partnership with Gregory before being caught by the fielder running in from deep square leg. Gregory fell shortly after for a superb 45 runs with the score on 135/4 after 29 overs.

Al Johnson (37*), Dave Richardson (21), Charlie Figg (9) and Henry Miller (8) all scored quickly to push the score after 40 overs to 213/8. This was the 5th time this season that Maldon 4s had scored over 200 runs.

The bowling attack started with Stanley Johnson, playing his first senior game for the club, and Jas Bains. Bains and Johnson bowled well and soon took the first wicket with Bains bowling a outswinger to knock the opening batsman’s off stump. Johnson continued to bowl well and was unlucky not to pick up a wicket going for just 18 off his 5 overs.

Henry Miller continued were Johnson left off and bowled extremely well taking a fine caught and bowled, and gifting two catches to Joe Figg and Josh Servis finishing with 3-20. A fine spell of bowling that stopped the run chase. Bethan Bailey continued her fine season taking her 35th wicket of the season with a catch behind the stumps.

Charlie Figg bowled well again taking two wickets including a great catch by Al Johnson at mid off. Josh Servis bowled the final few overs and took a wicket courtesy of a well juggled catch behind the stumps by Joe Figg. Bains returned to take the final wicket of the match with Galleywood all out for 157 and Maldon winning by 56 runs.

Another great all round performance to end a great season on a high.
